About the Company That Counts
Bookkeeping for UK small businesses that want clarity, confidence, and control
The Company That Counts was created to help small businesses manage their own bookkeeping without feeling that they have to work everything out alone.
Behind the business is Eva Busquier, an experienced bookkeeper who believes that good bookkeeping should make running a business easier, not more complicated.
Starting a new chapter
I moved from Spain to England in 2011 with a suitcase, some savings and a plan: improve my English, then spend some time working on cruise ships and travelling the world.
I believed the best way to learn was to immerse myself properly—to live, work and communicate in English as part of everyday life, rather than relying on lessons alone.
Bookkeeping was already my profession, so I focused my job search in that field. I had the qualifications, experience and technical knowledge; the challenge was learning how to communicate all of that confidently in a second language.
Finding my place
Securing my first role took longer than expected, but once I had the opportunity, everything began to fall into place.
I adapted quickly, gained confidence and discovered how much I enjoyed working directly with business owners.
Bookkeeping was no longer simply about recording transactions. It was about helping people understand what was happening in their businesses, improving the way they worked and giving them more control over their finances.
That change in perspective shaped the rest of my career.
From bookkeeping to business support
As relationships with clients developed, so did their trust in me.
They began asking more questions, involving me in decisions and recommending me to other business owners. I became part of their wider team rather than someone who simply worked on the numbers.
I realised that technical knowledge was only part of what made a good bookkeeper.
Clear communication, patience and a genuine interest in the people behind the business mattered just as much.
Creating The Company That Counts
Eventually, I took the leap and began working for myself.
Today, through The Company That Counts, I support businesses that keep their bookkeeping in-house but want reassurance that their Xero system is set up properly and working as it should.
I help with focused projects such as:
- Setting up new Xero accounts
- Reviewing existing systems
- Cleaning up inaccurate or incomplete records
- Preparing bookkeeping for VAT or year-end
- Improving processes and everyday workflows
Ongoing support is also available where it would be useful.
A calm and practical approach
My work combines bookkeeping expertise with strong IT knowledge, Excel skills and an ability to make complicated information easier to understand.
Just as importantly, I am calm, approachable and patient.
We start with where you are, work out what needs attention and create a practical way forward.
The journey continues
My desire to see the world never completely disappeared. It simply evolved.
Today, I can support businesses from anywhere in the world—as long as there is a decent Wi-Fi connection! It allows me to combine meaningful work with the freedom to travel, even though the route looks rather different from the one I originally imagined.
COULD WE BE THE RIGHT FIT?
The next step is to look at the types of businesses we support and the bookkeeping challenges we help them solve.
